V.V.S Laxman

A Tribute to one of my favorite players ever

Nature's maze of walls are made up of a myriad of bricks. Some are still, others are passive, and still others are animated. We percieve each one of them with each one of our senses, or a combination of them. Sometimes we just know...

Some are crafted within by hands we know, while most others are handiwork of the unseen and unknown.

Art, born of Nature's imagination, is etched in every brick of its walls by these hands.

We live close, too adjacent to the next brick. Our appreciation of the slivers embedded in each one is therefore limited to, or blinded thereby.

But there are times we are suddenly presented with a greater vision of the grandness. A more entire wholesomeness...We are then left with a thrill of humility in our hearts and excitement of wonderment in our souls. Such may smite us anywhere, anytime...

Of such unexpected grandness sprung upon us from a cricket field is Laxman, who is yet, just another brick in this maze of walls.

Walls may crumble, the maze may crumple, but the art within cannot be concealed.

Is it any wonder then that he is the pied piper for all cricket watcher's? VVS is, for me, a very very special pied piper...

Not going into praise of his excellent wrist work. It's hard, but I'll digress.

What else I like about him: despite all the underrating by the media and oversights by the board in selecting him at times, he never complained. Whenever he's been called in, he's done his job. Done it well. Such a selfless cricketer.

Oh, did I say selfless? Reminds me of the Dravid controversy!

That's been one of his hallmarks. But Dravid's been that way too.

Top of the heap for me is GR Viswanath.
