Duleep Trophy Experiment

This year, the Engalnd Lions are one of the teams vying for the Duleep Trophy.

England Lions are the renamed England A team and now comprise of Yardy, Ed Joyce, Monty Panesar...yes, Monty isn't in NZ...Onions, Foster and a couple of hopefuls in Rashid and Denly.

Central Zone have Kaif and Pankaj Singh who flew back after the Oz test series ended. I also recognize Bangar's name and Rawat, the keeper.

So it has been a topsy turvy match when it shouldn't have been, with only Kaif doing anything worthwhile with the bat for CZ. With the ball,Pankaj played a lone hand...almost, like Kaif, as CZ took a decent lead only to throw it away in the second innings. Lions look on course for the 290-odd they need to win it.

Monty had a poor outing, Rashid a little better in terms of wickets and economy even if he didn't bowl much. He weighed in with the bat importantly for the Lions.

The only conclusion one arrives at is England Lions will have to pull it up a bit if they want the trophy.

Ed Joyce came out to Australia as a young fellow and he played at my club. He was good, and i obviously wasn't. Really good bloke (really good), if you see him in the street buy him a beer.

Curious how he was quickly disposed of. In his last ten ODIs, he had a century, a 75 and two 66s.

One century and three fifties in ten innings in Australia and the WC. Don't know how many current English ODI players have their last ten ODIs reading thus...

Monty is certainly fading. I just noticed a coincidence, the current lot of spinners have flattered to decieve.

he's a bit of a grafter, i think the poms wanted someone with more bang, as they already have enough grafters.

Joyce had a brilliant start and looked far better than most of the engos... His form though deserted him for a while and was never given a run after that. Thought he could turn out like another Bell.

Kaif is doing well and is in the scheme of things to get a recall. I haven't seen Pankaj bowling... must check it out :)... isn't he that really tall guy?

That's right Ottayan. I was thinking of looking up Monty's career graph. He has sort of hit a rough patch...time for him to develop new tricks.

SP, Kaif will play again...albeit at 30 years of age and in test matches. I'll be visiting your blog.

Brad, this is an arrangement between the two boards..England want their players to have greater experience of subcontinental conditions and India welcome the extra competition.

But he's a consistent sort of chap Uncle.

Welcome The Village Cricketer...a few weeks ago I visited your blog. I came upon it quite by chance on google search. I liked it very much.

He is the tall guy Scorpi from Rajasthan. I'm still hopeful of Kaif though the Ranji final didn't impress me. This 2008 season, I felt he had lost a bit of zing he had....a bit disconsolate compared to 2007, as if he were losing hope and going through the motions.

Welcome Suave, yep...he's started brightly. A few wickets and an important 40 which probably helped win the match in analysis.

But he'll face sterner tests against other teams. CZ is the weakest zone of the lot.
