Sarwan in Hiding

Amid reports of escalating violence in Guyana where gunmen ran amok and killed eleven people including five schoolchildren, it is reported by Chetram Singh, Guyana cricket board president, and Carl Moore, Guyana team manager, that Ramnaresh Sarwan, the Guyana and West Indies cricketer, was contacted at practice by his relatives who told him that suspicious men were lurking around his neighbourhood.

Sarwan has since gone into hiding and failed to turn up for Stanford 20/20 practice for the past two days.

Guyana Police Commander Paul Slowe stated that Sarwan could have adopted preventive measures even though he hadn't personally recieved any death threats.

These terrorists acts within Guyana are said to be part of the internicine struggle between various political outfits to capture power.

Guyana is still reeling from the news of the murder of 11 people in a single shooting spree. But I don't think it's the work of terrorists. I suspect that those alarmed by the violence are over-reacting.

I suspect that it's the work of a criminal gang, maybe involved in drug trafficking, and this resulted in this gruesome murder spree.

The gents at the rum shop also suggested clan gangs of "mud -dies". I know how it is in India with various reasons to have a group war, and many of the Guyanese involved appear to be of Indian roots. Some of these things go very very deep and no amount of generational isolation in different climes can erase/blur these lines of difference.
