ICC U 19 CWC 2008 Finals : India vs South Africa
Scorecard
South Africa are looking determined. They had two early strikes to remove both the openers, Taruwar Kohli and S Goswami. Tanmay Srivastava adopted his natural aggressive mien and Virat Kohli played the anchor role to see India to 73 off just over 20 overs. Jusr as they were accelerating, skipper Virat Kohli holed out. India in some trouble now and this is looking SA's game.
The accurate bowling was backed up by brilliant fielding from the South Africans. Plenty of work left for India in this match.
UPDATE
South Africa are in the driver's seat at the moment. Tanmay tries to cut over the point and holes out to Englebrecht. India are now looking down the barrell.
Plenty of work to do for them in this match...first a decent score, and some good bowling and fielding to hold the fast improving SA batting line-up.
At the moment, it looks a Saffer game, but the senior team chokes, as good friend Q reminds me! :)
UPDATE
However, at the moment it is India which is choking...five down for 122 and 36th in progress. Can the experienced Jadeja guide India to a total, like in the previous match, with Manish Pandey?
UPDATE
South Africa are putting across India here. They are stunning the team that has recently beaten them thrice. 144-7 in 42.

India in trouble now. Too low a score I think.
But Sangwan has had the better of the Proteas before. Early wickets will make the match very interesting.
I predict a close game. I think SA will win by 2-3 wickets, but I hope India manage a 10-15 run victory.
It will be close though I sense.
Rain...here is a comment I made about Argal over at John's.
That boy impresses me as a long term prospect...even ahead of Sangwan.
Rain knocks it out...but then I also did say the SA top order is weaker than their middle and lower order. Plenty of work left there for India still.
I have to update both threads...I'll probably do it after the CB match is over.
I just read ur comment there. I too think that VK has a very bright future ahead. The other batsmen I dont know - maybe test cricket, they dont cut it as ODI batsmen.
Argal definitely is a fine prospect.
VK most definitely...and I think Tanmay will have his moments. Not sure about the rest of batsmen.
Argal has most things right...action, height, movement, wrist position, run up...if he can grow a few inches and put on the right kind of bulk..I think this lad has the capacity to have speed and swing...a Sreesanth-in-form kind of bowler he coiuld be.
SB, I dare say that I called the 8 wickets that SA lost and the 12 run win that India got in today's final.
Thats the 2nd time in 5 days on your blog :-)
I should be a betting man!
Actually right here on your blog I also in a way called Sachin shutting his critics up. That makes it 3 times in 5 days.
Now I know how I need to bet on matches involving India - whatever I'm thinking I comment on it right here on TCWJ and then put a wager on it ;-)
Congrats man - T20 champions and U19 Champions. Quite an achievement.
Q,
I dare say we will add the Common wealth Bank tri-series.:)
Bet?
Ott - my wager is on Australia winning the next game and India winning the 3rd in a very close match.
:-)
I shall call on the match after the first 15-20 overs as I have done previously.
Bet?
You were right Q!
I'm not taking you on for I think Australia is not to be underestimated and India overestimated. Ottayan has a point though.
Thanks Q.
hi guys.. was caught up at a conference all day today so the only highlights i got of the final were through smses from freinds telling me about amazing reverse sweeps by sachin, Praveen's wickets and during the last 5 overs of Ausstralia's innings i was getting an sms literally ball by ball :-)
great work by India and Sachin yet again!
Ott I couldn't place my bet cos I wasn't following but I did think that there will be a 3rd final.
2nd CB series loss for the Aussies in a row. And this was the last Tri-Series ever - the losses will haunt the Aussies forever.
Sad farewell for Gilchrist but such is life. Maybe he deserved better.
But all great for India. Congrats!
Thanks Q,
I was caught out too and missed the match. Will catch the replay after the Bangalore Open tennis.
Gilly will be remembered...how time flies! I saw his first ODI live at Faridabad.
Uncle J has also lined it up alongside England's win and suggests that India could go the same way...I hope not!
I think there will be some essential clearance of players in the Australian team...Gilly and Hogg's retirement actually opens up spots for improvement.
I know many would disagree with me on this, and stats suggest otherwise, but I think Hayden should also quit...he's holding up a spot. Still their best player but has plateaued...one needs to look at the larger picture now. But that's Australia's problem.
