After Hoggard leapt to conjure a rabbit for Sidebottom, Ryan went on to pick up two more on the trot. In cricketing parlance, that is called a hat-trick! Add a Monty wicket in between and you end up describing a middle order collapse.
The one bowler who looked most potent of all Englishmen has firmly placed his team back in the race for the match. But will England run it?
When things aren't going your way with regular stuff, you have to do something extraordinary. Something different...Hoggard did it with his fielding. England have a chance to do it with their batting now. But before that, they have to get rid of the two wickets quickly.
The Kiwis on the other hand, would not be too worried yet. The lead is decent, the target already in the realms of one which is tantalizing yet defendable. The fact that it is tantalizing adds an extra edge to Kiwi bowling on a fifth day wicket.
The first hour will tell us if England have the vim and vigour to go for a win.
