There has been much happening in this world of cricket blogs these past few days.
Sfx, celebrates the first anniversary of his brilliant blog Just another Silly Point with what else?...A brilliant blogpost of course!
In And Miles To Go...Sfx captures the journey of his blog alongside the Indian team's revival since the dark days in the immediate aftermath of WC 2007.
For most of us trying to keep up with the times, one year ago is almost forgotten. When it shouldn't be, for perhaps this is the most definitive year for Indian cricket, and world cricket, in many ways. Do head over to wish Sfx and relive the year in a way only he can narrate.
King Cricket - One of the best blogs on this game one could find on the web, has been included in The Wisden Cricketer's Best of The Blogs category.
My congratulations to King Cricket for a deserved place.
Uncle J rod of CWB has gone audio. He is out with the fourth episode of Cricket with Balls Podcasts.
He, the man with a special brand of cricketing humor and insight, and one who can make his petitions count (re: The David Hussey Petition - Update: Future PM David Hussey is now set to be on the jet plane to Jamaica and more, perhaps as a result for the petition was featured by the Times Online {I think}), now has picked up another cause. This time it is for UJR himself...Send Me To The Wisden Cricketer.
I hope he is there before the Ashes 2009. I'm already looking forward to his coverage of the event as well as his podcasts.
As far as the petition went, I thought it was a simple matter and said so in support on his blog -
We read Uncle's CWB over here in India too....daily. May not be doing the same with Wisden you know.
When did I last read Wisden? I can't recollect to tell you the truth.
OK, I may have been carried away a bit by UJR's energy, but if at all I do, I refer to Wisden's online version once in a while. CWB is a daily read instead...sometimes more than once in a day.
The point is I felt it is a petition worth appending one's signature to. Toungue in cheek or dead serious, it's worth looking up.
Gaurav Sethi has a nice article on Sehwag on his blog - Naked Cricket.
Kartikeya of A Cricketing View, and another brilliant cricket blogger and writer, discusses the similarities and differences between Sehwag and Dravid in only the way he can.
There are many more articles on his blog which are all worthy - analytical, thought-provoking, and extremely well-written.
There is Ottayan who keeps up the pressure on one side and there's Homer who shares his keen cricketing sense with us.
SP has his telling Simple but Straight Points.
Samir Chopra's Eye on Cricket, Aju John's Island Express, Scorpicity's Cricket Fizz, Golandaaz and Vidooshak's Smart Cricket Talk, Cricket Guru's classical Cricket and All That....I could go on. There are brilliant writers with cricketing bugs out there.
Then there's Martyd with Cricket = Action = Art. He narrates with art...cricketing art and rarely are words ever required! Then there's WellPitched , the pentangular cricketing blog which covers the world of cricket from all corners through the eyes of Obaid, Q, Najaf, O2 and Jeff. truly a five-pointed star blog.
Then there's David Barry's Pappu's Plane, with a completely different approach to batting...blogging... which has fleshed out a little developed (and understood) component of the game and has brought to us many different and hitherto unknown innings from the annals of the game.
All this makes me wonder if we aren't a community in itself? Should we not then be able to recognize cricketing bloggers for their excellence?
I'm thinking about it already...sure, it would involve a great bit of reading over a month, plenty of browsing...it's an idea I put to you all.
But there must be so many blogs out there I don't even know of....and how would one keep track of all of them over time and regularly?
I'm kicking off my reading and exploration of the cricketing blogworld right away...have to sustain it though like say, Rahul Dravid.

All the best.:)
:)Any Ideas Ottayan?
CSS might have lost it in these two balls.
Nice round up SB..it truly is a huge community..
If I were a businessman I would invest in a publishing house, get all of you together to write, and launch a monthly cricket magazine.
Rock on blogging community.
thanks SB for bringing all together like a community!!
yes indeed theres lots of variety rarely found like we have in our small but buzzing community...
Thanks for the continued support.
Q, aren't you an investment banker? Surely you could knock something together.
I find the blogworld fascinating. Sure there will be overlap of views but these days newspapres (the traditional bastions of cricket coverage) and even television commentary, appear insipid.
Keep blogging friends!
But these days newspapers (the traditional bastions of cricket coverage) and even television commentary, appear insipid.
How true and well said too!
Some of these blogs would put the best of newspaper writings to shade. Thank you for linking them together.
I sure am Uncle J.. I may even be able to rope in investors if i have something serious on the plate - all of us collectively writing for a monthly cricket mag?
I think it can be a great idea.. each one of us has its own unique style of writing and a collective effort can be quite entertaining..
Have u guys heard about this book that was put together by bloggers around the world contributing a chapter each to it - i cant remember the subject but it happened last year...
You're a boundless source of energy, Soulberry. As are a lot of the bloggers you mention.
Q, if you're getting investors in, can you try to make sure there are pretty secretaries in our offices?
Now that's an idea Q. I'm sure if one reads all the blogs we know, we could put together a worthwhile match!
CG, once Homer and I were talking on the phone and we both felt how much our "cricketing needs" were satisfied and better as well, by the blogosphere. There is a wide variety to choose from...despite the various handicaps of bloggers who do it merely out of passion and a hobby unlike men paid to watch and write about a match...they do come up with reasonably quick and tremendous variety of succulent viewpoints.
I feel like I'm in a stadium in the midst of thousands of spectators when I read various blogs or participate in MB's.
Then there are special talents like
David Barry, Martyd, Arjwiz, or romantic writers like yourself, humorous writers like UJ and KC, incisive watchdogs like Homer, Ottayan, SP, John...knowledgeable ones like the guys at Well Pitched...and so on...can you ever get all of that in one evening (or morning or afternoon) in one magazine?
And mind you freedom of speech has its advantages as well...things sound more real than sanitized write-ups.
Frankly, I have almost ceased news-watching and the newspaper is just an old habit which will probably die with me.
John man, you talk about energy?...everytime I step out to your foodblog I always wonder the same about you. Just that maybe I was shy of saying it. I'm in awe of the efforts you put into both your blogs.
"can you ever get all of that in one evening (or morning or afternoon) in one magazine?"
Yes you can :-) If that magazine ofcourse the one we launch !!
Imagine, where else will you find such diversity of opinions, styles of writing, coverage of all cricket playing countries, and so on.
John, I believe that is an unstated condition of any office ;-)
Pls link my blog onto your blog as I've done regarding yours..CRICKETAHEAD
