The Wizard of Oz has come out with a book listing his top 100 test cricketers. It's a little different from the list he had released earlier.
Times Online"Ranatunga looked like he had swallowed a sheep"
Page 1 || Page 2 || Page 3
"Kevin Pietersen can be the best"
Tendulkar is my No 1 - 'The Little Master' is the best batsman in the business - he has a touch of genius, but works hard on his game'
He had an earlier list with TimesOnline, a 1 - 50.
Sachin remains no. 1 in both lists. Which takes us back to Hyperbole and personal favorites.

I place Akram ahead of all bowlers in that list. But that's my choice...
I'm certain to get my hands on a copy. I like Shane Warne the bowler and would be interested to know why he picked those he picked and in that order.

Hmm, that will be a tempting read. I just blew a few thousand buck on books in the past month. Guess it isn't over yet.
Victoria, it surely is a tempting read and this one appears to be costing at least a thou....unless they have an Asian edition or something like that.
Books have become terribly expensive these days. sad but true.
I think he has ranked the players in the order of who made the most impact on his life and not in terms of brilliance/greatness.Otherwise no sane mind would put Merv Hughes ahead of Waqar Younis, his list doesn't include Viv Richards, Richard Hadlee, Imran Khan, Sunil Gavaskar, Miandad these Players were world beaters and were far ahead in the game as compared to a lot of ordinary players in his list.
I think Wasim, he has only included players he has played with and against.
I don't know why the Bomber comes behind Big Merv either?
But man, Wasim Akram should be the no.1 in any school of cricket! That gent could bowl more variety as a pace bowler than Shane Warney could as an exceptional leg spinner!
Well...a bit of hyperbole is permissible I guess when dealing with one's favorites. :)Akram and Warne are both in my list with Holding also up there along with them.
Yeah thats what I think too but did he ever played against Kapil?
Yep...debut series. Musn't have been impressed by Kapil's swansong in Australia.
i guess he should have included Abdul Qadir in that list a man that kept alive leg spin in an era of fast bowling. he even gave Warne some tips when warne met him in lahore!
Quadir's a fair call as well.
Did they play against each other or alongside? I think that's the key to this list.
Welcome Humanoid, thanks for your comments.
Cheers! :)
probably Warne thought by placing Tendulkar who plays for bookish records on top he would be able to sell the book in India, Indians only read photo copies of the books or want a cheaper version for India.
I completely disagree with Warne on Tendulkar he should have been in the list for his "RECORDS" but he can never be number 1, cricket as a game deserves a lot lot better than that.
macgill ahead of kapildev ,even andy flower is given a good position far than he deserve
Hi Anon, these are his perceptions and he must have his reasons for that. One cannot argue with that...just as one cannot argue with your perceptions...you have yours about say Sachin for example or McGill and Kapil.
This is not a universal kind of list...just one man's favorite 100 and it just happens that that man is Shane Warne.
In my list, Wasim Akram would always be no.1 for instance.
The beuaty of reading the book will be to know why this man has the list in that order...that'll be the interesting part...not who is no.1 or no.100.
If you see, Laxman is waayyyy down...one player who has tormented the best Australian attacks over the past decade like none other. I might want him higher...but then that would be my 100, not Warney's 100.
Cheers and thanks for dropping by :)
excellent read! please dip into my own views on english cricket in crisis at: https//cricvoice.blogspot.com
i am still surprised .. he didn't picked up saqlain .. he think he was on the same level as murali and shane .. moreover he was the one who invented doosra ..his stats would have been same , if he had continued playing ..its a surprise that monty is listed on the list ... dunno know what was going on shane's mind
Such lists tend to be subjective for they are after all a man's opinion. Clearly it has nothing to do with stats and the like.
