Rain in the pipes

And plenty of it too today Saturday, a day on which the fixtures promised to convey three T20World Cup matches - Kiwis v Scots, Ozzies v Windies, Indigos v Bangla Boyz - all potentially interesting matches, presuming the Scots have made up their minds to blend a special one after observing the Dutch treat yesterday.

Like I was telling someone yesterday, what excites me most about the quaint English cricket grounds beneath the #000 to #FFF gradients painted across the sky we see so often on TV, is that marvellous hover-gadget which also doubles as covers! I'm certain we could have a proper rodeo out there with different bucking hover-broncos enlivening the proceedings while the raindrops pelt down. They look tempting...one feels like jumping on them going whoeeeee around the park. In case you haven't ever seen them, just watch out for them the next time the cameras pan into an English ground - you can see them being brought out of their stables and hitched to pegs (?) on the ground.

My friend suggested Lords adopted a retractile protection...I looked askance...Wimbledon, he told me, has gone that way already. "What about the stuff which sprouts underneath," I asked. "Will it not all die in that case?" Grass, he said could always be allowed to grow with the covering well retracted.

We think both the matches later, Bangla Boyz vs Indigos and ozzie vs Windies could be great weekend blast if only the rains could relent. I can see already, CaptainCeee whipping Mitch Johnson over midwicket and Siddle being thumped over his head. Then Castro would come in and send the wood Claaataaaxxxing!

C'mon dreamer...get the umbrella up!

Play hasn't yet begun in the Kiwis vs Scots fixture. Let's go over to Turkey instead and watch the F1. But before we do, why is it that the man at the wrong end of the stick in pressure situations is always Likkle Broad of England?

New Zealand v Scotland Scorecard

The game is likely to start in 20 minutes as per Cricinfo.

New Zealand have won the toss and opted to bowl. McCallum leading in place of injured Vettori. Is that good for Kiwis or...he was the KKR skip in the IPL you know.

Perhaps it could be argued that the Aus/WI game is more important in some sense, but in general, I would think that when a start at a ground hosting two games in a day is delayed, it could be better to rearrange the overs lost over both games.

Doesn't sound right. Contain/localize the impact...isn't that usually the right thing to do

Damp squib. It didn't rain until Yuvraj arrived and only then the downpour started.

No no Jonathan...I'm quite with Golandaaz on this one.

The idea is indeed to localize and thus minimize the damage.

Som, Yuvraj can be so smooth in LOI but...the thing is to enjoy whatever he can and does offer in his career I guess.

By the way Som...India will have to time its acceleration well if it has to survive...yesterday's pattern could prove self-defeating if it continues too long.

I'm not sure. Usually ODIs are allowed to run an hour or so late if necessary, but here we have a game cut to 7 overs(!) just so that the next game can start on time. Seems to me that two 14 over games would have been a better option.

Containing and localising is reasonable, but the way to do that properly is to have them separately to start with.
